Croydon Athletic clinched a second home win on the bounce with a hard fought 2-1 win against Ashford United.
The Rams started on the front foot with high intensity after a ten day break. They got their rewards for their attacking intent with the opener on 14 minutes.
Akanbi’s strong hold up play on the edge of the Ashford box saw him lay it off to Kirby. His crisp shot nestled into the bottom corner (1-0), much to the delight of the home fans.
Croydon didn’t take their foot off the gas and pushed forward in search of a second. On 25 minutes, Pierrick pounced on a loose ball in the box and rifled his shot into the roof of the net (2-0).
The next goal was also going to be pivotal. A rare foray into the Rams box on 58 minutes by the away team saw some neat build up play. Their attacked steadied himself before slotting his shot beyond Tangara to half the deficit.
A Rams side with new found resilience weren’t going to led the three points slip out of their hands. They pushed forward in numbers and squandered some presentable chances.
Crucially, Croydon’s backline held firm despite a late onslaught by Ashford to clinch the win.
An uptick in both performances and results now sees the Rams pushing for a top half finish.
