Match Preview | Sittingbourne

Croydon Athletic are aiming to make history this afternoon as they take on Sittingbourne in the Emirates FA Cup First Qualifying Round.

FA Cup action

The Rams booked their place in this stage with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Tooting & Mitcham United at Imperial Fields. A victory today would take Croydon Athletic further than they have ever gone in the competition, having previously reached this round on three occasions – including in each of the last two seasons.

Danny Kedwell’s side will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s FA Trophy exit, but confidence remains high with a perfect league record so far as a result of beating Beckenham Town on Bank Holiday Monday.

Sittingbourne also advanced with a 1-0 victory, beati past VCD Athletic. The Brickies enjoyed a strong cup run last season, reaching the Third Qualifying Round before falling to Plymouth Parkway.

Words from the Gaffer

Sittingbourne are a very good side. I have got a lot of respect for Ryan Maxwell. He knows what he wants, he has got his personnel.

It is going be a very tough game. We will have to change our style a bit. I am looking forward to it.

About Sittingbourne FC

Sittingbourne’s unbeaten league start came to an end on Bank Holiday Monday with a 0-2 derby defeat to Sheppey United.

Last season, the Kent side amassed an impressive 100 points but fell short in the play-offs against Burgess Hill Town. They also had the edge over The Rams last campaign, winning both league meetings.

This term, The Brickies sit third in the Isthmian South East Division on nine points, having played one game more than Croydon Athletic.
