Croydon Athletic Secure Victory Against Steyning Town
Croydon Athletic made a spirited start in their latest fixture, winning an early penalty after Pierrick was tripped in the box. However, Sow’s effort from the spot was thwarted by a superb save from the Steyning Town goalkeeper, who dove low to his right to keep the scoreline level.
The first half saw plenty of action, and it wasn’t long before Croydon took the lead. Just 16 minutes in, Pierrick surged to the byline and delivered a perfect cross for Malachi Dotse, who found the net unmarked from mere yards out.
Steyning Town quickly bounced back, earning a penalty of their own when Tangara brought down one of their strikers as he charged down a shot. Barnes stepped up and coolly slotted the ball into the bottom corner, leveling the score at 1-1.
Despite maintaining a high press, Croydon faced a scare when Steyning came close with a cheeky backheel attempt that was expertly kept out at the near post. However, just before the half-time whistle, Sow redeemed himself by laying off a long ball to Pierrick, who unleashed a thunderous strike into the near post, marking his 12th goal in 12 games this season.
The second half began brightly for Croydon, with Omilabu capitalising on a poor defensive header to drive into the box and curl a brilliant finish into the far corner.
Although Steyning Town pressed for a way back into the match, they were met with resilient defending and outstanding goalkeeping that kept them at bay. At the other end, Croydon squandered two golden opportunities from headers during set pieces, both brilliantly saved by the visitors’ goalkeeper.
The match concluded with a convincing 3-1 victory for Croydon Athletic, a fantastic result that reflects their improving form in the league as they continue to build momentum.
