Charlie Colkett signs for Croydon Athletic

Croydon Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of Charlie Colkett from Gateshead FC.

The 29-year-old midfielder featured for Gateshead in the National League last season, having previously played in the English Football League at the likes of Crewe Alexandra and Cheltenham Town. Colkett also played in Sweden for three years at Östersund.

Danny Kedwell’s latest signing was born in Newham, East London and spent his youth career with Charlton Athletic and Chelsea where he won back-to-back FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League titles with the club including lifting the trophy as he captained the side against Paris St Germain.

When speaking about the move Charlie Colkett said: “The Chairman has been in touch a few times. The timing felt right for me personally so we have made it happen.”

Colkett who celebrates his birthday today, will be expected to make his debut on Tuesday against Broadbridge Heath ahead of our FA Cup tie the following Saturday against National League South side Hampton and Richmond Borough.

Charlie will wear the number 11 shirt for the 2025/26 campaign and has already taken part in Wednesday’s training session with the squad.

Everyone at Croydon Athletic would like to extend a warm welcome to Charlie Colkett— we’re delighted to have you on board!
