POST-MATCH INTERVIEW with Keith Millen

Post-Match Reflection: Manager Discusses 1-0 Loss

Croydon Athletic’s manager shared his thoughts after today’s narrow 1-0 defeat, balancing disappointment with optimism as he reflected on the team’s performance.

Promising Start

The gaffer acknowledged the frustration of the result but highlighted the progress made during the match’s opening stages. “For the first 30 minutes, you could see some really good stuff, really, really good play,” he said. He pointed to the team’s disciplined shape and structured approach as evidence of work done in training. “We’ve only had two days with the squad, so it was encouraging to see elements of what we’ve been working on coming through.”

Missed Opportunities

Despite a strong opening, the inability to convert chances into goals continued to be a thorn in the side for Croydon Athletic. “That’s been the story of the season, really,” the manager admitted. “All the good play, all the chances—we’ve probably not taken enough of them.”

The second half proved challenging, with changing weather conditions disrupting the rhythm of play. “The rain and wind made it scrappy,” he noted, adding that such conditions increase the risk of conceding. Unfortunately, the opposition capitalised on their opportunity, while Croydon could not find the equaliser.

Positives to Build On

While the result was disappointing, the manager remained upbeat about the team’s overall performance. “I was really pleased with the first 30 minutes,” he said. “The lads worked hard, looked fit and strong, so there were a lot of positives to take away.”

He urged fans to look at the bigger picture, suggesting that today’s performance is a step in the right direction as the team builds for the long term.

As the Rams move forward, the focus will be on turning positive performances into results—a challenge the manager and his squad are ready to embrace.
